I often hear the same story from my patients about their dizziness. They get symptoms that are hard to describe that interfere with their day-to-day activities, but not so much that they can’t push through. They are often exhausted, and it doesn’t go away. They go to their doctor and get a prescription for something to help with the dizziness, often meclizine. They are also told there is nothing else that can be done for them.

There is strong research evidence that supports non-medication treatments for dizziness. Once the appropriate assessment is complete, the corresponding non-pharmaceutical treatments can be implemented, resulting in improvement in symptoms and faster positive outcomes. There are many specialists that can offer you exercises, hands-on work, lifestyle modifications, counseling, and other non-pharmaceutical treatment options. As a physical therapist specializing in treating people with dizziness, I’m often collaborating with audiologists, neurologists, ear nose & throat doctors (ENTs), other PTs, massage therapists, and other body workers.

See you next week!

The annular eclipse on Saturday is a partial eclipse (about 91%) so you might notice that the light outside gets very strange. This can be disorienting and feel unnatural. When the moon...

Happy Fall and happy full moon! Last month I talked about vertigo resources and this month I am talking about sleep. The season is changing and here in Oregon we went from summer to fall VERY quickly. The light is also changing so now we have less than 12 hours of sunlight every day. These changes as we head into winter will change your energy levels and your sleep. You might find that you are ready for bed earlier than you were in the summer and that it's harder to get out of bed in the...
